Ybor City Illuminated Night Parade

A Rinoldo Family Movie

Dad photographed the Ybor City Illuminated Night Parade during TJ and his family’s February 2008 visit to Tampa.

Tampa’s Pirate Celebration

Dad explained that Tampa’s February celebrations center on the mythical invasion of the city by the pirate José Gaspar. The nighttime parade featured many of the same floats as the daytime celebration, transformed with elaborate illumination.

The slideshow contains roughly 180 photographs set to four complete songs. With only the floats’ lights and the camera flash available, Dad kept a few imperfect photographs because they still captured the experience.

Running time: 9 minutes, 12 seconds

The Morning After

When Rebecca got up the next morning, she counted all the beads she had caught during the parade. Dad did not remember the final number, but he saved this photograph of her wearing them.
